Prior to becoming the home of Smiles of Katy, 1419 Avenue D was known for Dr. James Williams' medical practice. The building was built in 1969 by Dr. Williams, originally as a pharmacy for Katy Medical Hospital that was to be built where the Katy Fire Station now stands. There were 3 treatment rooms and 1 very small waiting room capable of holding 4 patients at a time. Between 1995 and 2000, His practice closed due to his diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. Dr. Dolores Corona Mora bought 1421 Avenue D from Dr. James Williams in 2000 on a handshake and promissory note 100% financed by Dr. Williams himself; which was paid in full within 4 years. Dr. Williams and Dr. Mora had an agreement for her to handle the building with as much love and care as he did while practicing. The one story building was divided into 2 parts; One part for Dr. Mora's Dental/Orthodontics practice and one part continuing to rent out to Dr. Longie, a long time lessee of Dr. Williams, who later retired in 2004.  In 2012, we welcomed a wonderful remodel allowing more room for patients to be seen. Over time, Dr. Mora discovered that it was in the best interest to the office to expand, bringing on the construction of our new 10,000 square foot building; One side being for Smiles of Katy, General Dentistry and Orthodontics, and one side for an exciting Venue for old town Katy. With hard work and a supportive family, the building has now grown to its current state.

Born and raised in Corpus Christi, TX, Dr. Gutierrez knew at a very young age that he wanted to be a doctor to help people in their time of need.  After graduating with honors from Foy H. Moody High in the year 2000, he was accepted and attended the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, TX. While in undergrad, Dr. Gutierrez decided to combine his artistic abilities with his desire to help others and applied to the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School in 2003 while only a junior.  He was accepted a year early into the dental program and left the small town of Edinburg, TX for the big city of Houston, TX.

After graduating from dental school in 2007, Dr. Gutierrez obtained additional training in the field of dental implants at the University of Texas San Antonio Dental School and successfully completed the Preceptorship for Dental Implantology.  He later earned his Fellowship from the International Congress of Oral Implantology and now working on earning his Diplomate.

Dr. Gutierrez regularly attends numerous continuing education courses to stay up to date on the latest technology as well as surgical and restorative techniques.

Dr. Gutierrez is always trying to deliver a dental experience that is completely different than anything ever experienced before.  Being an apprehensive dental patient himself, Dr. Gutierrez always tries to deliver treatment in the most gentle way, just as he would want someone to do for him.

While in dental school Dr. Gutierrez met and married the love of his life, Ruby, and they now live in Katy, TX where they are raising two young men, Matthew & Jonah.  When not restoring teeth, Dr. Gutierrez enjoys spending time with his family, playing/watching sports with his wife & two boys, and salt water fishing.
